Wearable and More: Zoomax Joined AAO Academy 2019 Orlando

Zoomax attended Academy 2019 Orlando and 3rd World Congress of Optometry on October 23-27 in Orlando, Florida. The event was the 98th annual meeting of the American Academy of Optometry (AAO).

Highlights of Zoomax booth included the latest portable video magnifier Snow 12 and wearable low vision aid Acesight, electronic glasses for low vision.

As attendees of Academy 2019, the visitors received were from a wide range globally: veterans administration, college of optometry, university, and low vision service center.

Acesight, as one of the few wearable low vision devices on the market, got popular among the visitors; some professionals asked for loaner units for their patients, and scholars were interested in conducting a study of it.

Additionally, Zoomax attended a presentation called “Challenges and Promises of Wearable Devices” during AAO, which was presented by Dr. Eli Peli, Dr. Thomas Theune, and Dr. Robert Massof. The presentation was technically about the specific functions that the current wearable devices were using.

Dr. Peli, as the first person to propose the use of computerized image enhancement as a visual aid, shared his opinion on use of wearable devices. He also mentioned Acesight as part of his presentation. We believe the experts' high attention is encouraging people in wearable industry to persuit better and better solution for users.

The meeting this year featured nearly 450 hours of continuing education courses, an exhibit hall with more than 175 companies exhibiting and over 8,000 visitors including optometrists, vision care professionals, vision scientists and optometry students from around the world.
